MY FRIEND LUCIE

Here's Lucie doing her 'puppy Yoga'.....actually she's 'hiding a bone'...so cute!   Not too inspired to paint lately, partly I think due to needing to change to water soluble oils (because of fumes from reg. oils). The consistency is just not the same......want to try Holbein's medium before giving up on wso's.  Happy painting out there.

"INCREDIBLE RIO GRANDE BOSQUE BEAUTY"

and this is my favorite and have no idea what created the misty effect.

So, ok, I left the house with good intentions of painting at the bosque.......found sooooooo much beauty did photos instead.  The colors just amazing........would be fertile ground for a Susan Sarback, Camille Przewodek, Kathryn Law and any number of those incredible 'Cape School' aritists.   I was intimidated by it all.........maybe work from photos this winter at home.  For now will enjoy the photos and if our weather holds warm and leaves don't get frosted will return to bosque and give it a go.      PS.........I did crop some photos but did no color changes.

"SOME PAST WORK"

Going out to paint today.....lots of autumn color still  there, temps 70's....is this really November?         (click on image to enlarge)

"RIO GRANDE BOSQUE" 8"x10" O on panel $200

Yesterday before going out to paint I did some reorganizing of my painting area....came across several notes (short outlines) of ways other painters 'make' a painting.  Since my issue lately has been 'finding my own way'.........I threw them all away and went down to the bosque and painted.  Not surprising, the word that came to mind was 'tenative'....holding back.....thin paint....second guessing etc.  Much EASIER painting like the 'authorities'.  But I enjoyed the morning much more.

"WOMAN IN LAVENDER FIELD" O/C 8"x10" $100

The lavender's fragrance in the area of Los Poblanos is noticeable long before getting there.......wonderful.  Painting a person was new to me....I liked the result.

MOVING AHEAD

My next blog challenges feel HUGE .  Naming work, pricing work, PayPal etc etc.........things that introverted me back away from....trying to pretend it doesn't matter when it really does.  I guess it's the anonimity (?) of blogging that's making it possible for me ..  Whatever 'it' is, I'm grateful.  And now Lucie (my poodle) says 'it's supper time'.  Tomorrow will begin the new challenges.

THANKS (NFS)

Frequently, as I paint (if not always) I'm reminded of one or many of the artists who have taught me so much....so, from time to time will 'thank' these gifted people.  This piece I painted along with Charles Sovek from his  PBS DVD "PLEIN AIR PAINTING"..........one of the many gems he passed along  "remember if you paint like someone else you'll always be second best."    His website......sovek.com.....is a wealth of wisdom and beautiful paintings!    Thank you Mr Sovek.

NEW MEXICO AUTUMN

About a mile from home....yellow/golds with blue skies just amazing!  The mountains in background are a gorgeous magenta/ pink at sunset...thus their name 'Sandias' (watermelon mountains).  I received lovely inspiring words from artist Kathryn Law......the (my) art spirit thrives on encouragement of others....thanks again Kathryn.  She has a really fine workshop (with Ray Roberts) documented on her site........kathrynlaw.blogspot.com                       her "Sycamore" is a real 'wow' for me.

"CORRALES ADOBE" 8"x10" CANVAS PANEL $100

Corrales is a village  just east of where I live.....it retains its 'village-ness' with adobe, cottonwoods and all sorts of native vegetation....always a pleasure to drive thru.....a real art minded community.  I tried to limit my time on this painting and not overwork........am pleased with lots of it.

ACRYLIC "FRIEND FOR LUCE' " 9"x12" masonite panel $60

A quick acrylic study with very little 'fixin'.  Hoping to build upon this approach in my painting.

LOTUS photograph NFS

Took the photo few mos ago..........during Lavender Festival at Los Poblanos in Albuquerque.  The Lotus pond is breathtaking with blossoms  big as huge cantalopes......all in various stages of opening as the sun comes over.  It's easy to see how the Lotus has become such a spiritual symbol.   Happy painting out there !

ABOUT ME

My first art memory is finger painting in grade school, where I experienced making 'mud' long before learning the concept in art classes....I just wondered why all the pretty colors turned to gray. I pretty much did the 50's thing after school......nursing career, marriage and having my wonderful musician, pilot, super techy, son Brian. Art awakenings began in those 'crazy' middle years.  Reading and doing the exercises in Julia Cameron's "The Artists Way" (not once but three times) was a huge jumpstart.I've studied with Jan Keefer and Howard Wexler in Albuquerque, NM...learning much from both. Also studied with Susan Sarback in Fair Oaks CA...her first book "Capturing Radiant Color in Oil" was a great learning and inspiration along with her school (School of Light and Color).  She studied several years at The Cape Cod School under Henry Hensche. More recently I've been inspired by the many online resources available..........You Tube, Jerry's Artaramma, and endless numbers of painters willing to share lots of good stuff.  Some of my favoite websites.........john ebersberger.com..........przewodek.com.....mike rooney studios.com....sovek .com.     Charles Sovek says, at the end of his book "Oil Painting, Developing Your Natural Ability"......in essence.....you've done the lessons, now forget them and paint.    That's my goal!    Would like hearing from you painters out there.

INSPIRATION

Was 'talking' with Lucie yesterday (photo above)........yes my little poodle. She came to me 4 mos ago as  a rescue (lapdogrescue.org)  and teaches me bunches about everything everyday. So sitting with her I glance out the window and see a painting......potted plant on patio wall and it's 3pm so today at 3 will give it a go and good or bad will post it tomorrow.....promise to myself (as I tend to put off doing nice things for myself!)     My mantra these days......just do it.  How do you keep inspired my closet artist friends?
